EA Sports has shared its latest FC 27 Gameplay Developer Notes, giving players a better idea of what the team has learned during the first month since launch and what’s coming in November. Unlike previous years, EA decided to hold off on early gameplay adjustments, giving everyone some extra time to get used to the new mechanics before making any changes.

According to EA, players have been getting better on both ends of the pitch. They’re taking fewer shots but scoring more often, completing a higher percentage of passes and having more success with manual defending. Players are also trying out more formations and player roles compared to FC 26 with win rates staying pretty even across different setups. EA feels it now has a better understanding of how people are playing and where a few adjustments could help.

The first round of gameplay changes is coming in mid-November with Title Update 1.2.0. One of the bigger fixes deals with fullbacks dropping too deep on defense, which can leave attackers onside and cause problems for the back line. Fullbacks should do a better job holding their positions while still tracking dangerous runs. Attackers are also getting some improvements to their offside awareness which should help them time their runs and stay onside more often.

EA noticed that AI-controlled teammates sometimes hesitate or don’t make the best runs into open space, especially around the penalty area. The update should help them make smarter supporting runs and do a better job finding openings near the box. The team found that defenders sometimes drop too far back right after kick-off, making it easier for opponents to push straight toward goal. With the update, defenders should hold a higher line and put up more resistance, making those quick attacks a little harder to pull off.

Player switching should feel a bit more reliable, especially when the ball is loose. There have been situations where automatic switching picks someone other than the player closest to the ball. EA is making some fixes to improve switching after slide tackles, headed passes and shots that miss the target.

They are also keeping an eye on a few other gameplay issues that won’t necessarily be addressed in November. These include high defensive lines putting too much pressure on opponents, how collisions work between players of different sizes and physical attributes, the accuracy of certain shot types along with goalkeeper positioning. The team is still testing these areas before deciding what needs to change.

EA understands that not everyone plays FC 27 the same way and feedback on things like passing and defensive assistance has been mixed. For now, the plan is to stick with smaller adjustments instead of making big changes that could throw off other parts of the game. Players who want to ask questions or share their thoughts can join the gameplay development team for a live Q&A tomorrow, October 30 at 12:30 PM ET through the official EA Sports FC Discord server.
