Superstar Mode in Madden has been in desperate need of a breath of fresh air for years, and EA Sports finally made changes in Madden 27. Not everything needed changing, though, as the popular feature that lets players influence which free agents your team signs during the offseason has remained in place. This lets you have a much bigger impact on the team you’re currently playing for and might make you resist asking for a trade in Superstar.

While it’s not as impactful as Franchise Mode, fans initially loved this feature in Madden 27 Superstar, as it completely changes your experience with a particular team. However, in classic EA fashion, the feature has major flaws in Madden 27, as the CPU can immediately cut every player you requested to sign.

Madden 27 Superstar Lets You Sign Players, But The CPU Has Final Say

This feature in Superstar Mode is only available to players who earn the front office’s trust, which comes after a few seasons with the same team and unlocking new abilities. Once you’ve earned your front office’s trust, you’ll be able to suggest free agents for your team to sign after the offseason begins. Most of the time, your front office will actually sign the players you recommend.

In theory, this is a great mechanic because it gives you a reason to grind out your front office’s trust and directly impact the team’s roster. It’s especially nice for quarterbacks in Superstar, who can suggest receivers or running backs that would benefit them a lot.

Unfortunately, this is where the new mechanic takes an immediate turn for the worse in Madden 27. According to many players in the community, the CPU front office in Superstar immediately cut all the free agents players suggested. It seems no free agent is immune to this hiccup, as some players reported that huge offseason signings were cut by Week 1 of the new season.

It’s unclear exactly whether this is an intended feature in Superstar or just a bug with the front office’s ability to trust. It seems strange for a game mode to let you suggest free agents and have the front office sign them, only for the CPU to immediately turn around and cut those same players before Week 1 even begins.

This not only affects a player’s experience in Superstar, but also messes with a team’s roster construction and finances. Free agents signed to deals who are then cut result in a massive amount of dead money for the team. While this doesn’t affect players as much in Superstar as it does in Franchise, it’s still less than ideal and just makes players want to get traded from their current mess of a team.

We’ll have to wait and see if EA Sports chooses to address this growing problem. If we don’t hear anything, though, this might just be a new intended feature in Superstar Mode.
