We are not just here for the zipline.
Shack Staff October 24, 2026 10:00 AM 1A big part of going to resorts is enjoying all the activities on offer, and Nintendo Switch Sports Resort does not disappoint. There’s archery, basketball, boxing, tennis, thumb wrestling, and more currently in the game, but we here at Shacknews have some ideas regarding activity we’d love to see in a future DLC. Here are our picks for sports, activities, and mini-games!
Question: What sport would you like to see added as Nintendo Switch Sports Resort DLC?
Log Rolling - Ozzie Mejia, Senior Lumberjack
I love that Nintendo thinks outside the box with a lot of its game selections. So why not go totally off the board with the time-honored tradition of log rolling? Challenge two players to try and knock each other off using momentum principles and the laws of physics. You can even incorporate some Joy-Con 2 motion controls in this thing if you really tried. May the best lumberjack win.
Most events from American Gladiators - TJ Denzer, Big Blaze and Turbo fan
As a child who grew up in the 1990s, I saw a lot of American Gladiators, and I think a lot of those events would be good Wii Sports Resort games. At the very least, games like Powerball, where you run to deposit balls in bins while the opposition defends the bins, or Atlasphere, where Miis would roll around in giant ball cages trying to hit scoring pods, would make for funny events. Some of the stuff in Switch Sports Resort, like Chambara, remind me of American Gladiator events like Joust anyways. I say they should go all in on adapting a few more of those classics.
Four Square - Asif Khan, Old enough to remember Four Square
Nintendo’s motion controls have always focused around hand presence, and I think a playground game like Four Square would be a fun addition to the Switch Sports Resort lineup. Bouncing a ball, putting spin on it, and even spiking it into an opponent would be cool to see.
Hockey - Bill Lavoy, Shackmaps Overlord
Hockey is the obvious choice here, or at least some sort of hockey. If not full games, you can do a lot with a shootout mode. We need more hockey in video games. More fun takes on a sport that desperately needs to distance itself from the NHL franchise from Electronic Arts.
Tetherball - David L. Craddock, Likes hitting balls
Remember tetherball? You know, hitting a ball hanging from a pole, sending it around and around until it… hugs the pole? I don’t really know how tetherball works. What’s the point in hitting that ball? You wrap it around the pole, and then what? I don’t know. You win? That said, it would make a fun minigame. Having to swing the Joy-Con hard and faster as the ball spins and hugs that Festivus pole. Why do you do that? For reasons. To win! That’s why.
Surfing - Sam Chandler, Hang ten
You can’t very well have a video game at a resort location and not eventually include surfing. Outside of Kelly Slater’s Pro Surfer, there aren’t a lot of excellent surfing video games, but if there’s one developer that can make it work, it’s Nintendo. I’d love to hang ten on crystal waters, rip up some tubes, and drop in on some massive waves.
Baseball - Donovan Erskine, Yeeter of balls
Now that boxing is back, baseball is easily the most notable omission from the modern Switch Sports games. The Wiimote was perfect for swinging like a bat, and those controls would seamlessly transfer to the Joy-Cons. If you’ve listened to This Week in Switch 2, you know that we’ve also been asking for a new Mario baseball game. I’d gladly take either.
Now that I think about it, maybe there’s a conspiracy here. We know that many living room TVs were broken during the Wii days, and the motion controls required for baseball probably caused plenty of them. Perhaps Nintendo doesn’t want to encourage us to whip our Joy-Cons towards our precious TVs, even if we’ve got the strap attached.
Roller Hockey - Steve Tyminski, Love me some good sports!
I would love to see roller hockey be added as a DLC sport for this game. It feels like the perfect fit for the island. It could be a tribute to Pro Beach Hockey. I'd also be down to see the frisbee tossing mini game come back where you can play catch with your dog on the beach. As for an out-of-the-box pick, it could be fun to see a BBQ setting on the beach where you can hang out with your friends, like the relaxing tours around the island in the past. You can't have a BBQ without a hot dog eating contest. So, I would love to see roller hockey but will setting for Frisbee or a hot dog eating contest.
